It’s the data that make conversions complicated. Starting books from scratch is simple. That’s why we must ensure there is clean data going into QuickBooks. It’s also why we have identified the following problems and solutions to conversion projects:
Problem: Not all data converts. Simply due to the way different programs are structured, 100% data conversion is very rare. This causes heartburn in some clients, but 10 years of history is a very substantial amount of data to work with.
Solution: We recommend clients keep their old accounting system running for historical reference.
We also recommend clients import no more than 10 years of data into their new QuickBooks system. Why? Old data doesn’t always add value. Importing more than 10 years can also increase your chances for errors and bog down the system.
