QuickBooks vs Acumatica: A Comparison Guide
If you feel your business is outgrowing QuickBooks, switching to a cloud-based ERP like Acumatica might be a great option. You can retain strong accounting functionality while integrating things like customer tracking, complex inventory management, sales management, and more. As Premier Resellers for both Intuit and Acumatica, we’ve put together a true comparison of QuickBooks vs. Acumatica.
About QuickBooks Enterprise
QuickBooks Enterprise’s robust feature set and low price point which have helped it grow into the #1 accounting software for small and mid-size businesses. This is a product where the development team truly “thought of everything.” It comes with 150+ out-of-the-box reports, options for inventory management, and has more than 1,000 third party apps available for integration.
About Acumatica
Acumatica is the fastest growing cloud-based ERP. It was built with the cloud in mind, and includes a native mobile app, making it extremely convenient to use for on-the-go and distributed teams. It is a true ERP with extremely advanced controls for inventory management, as well as native modules for CRM, sales management, financial reporting, job costing, and more.
Why Consider Acumatica When You’re Outgrowing QuickBooks?
The QuickBooks Desktop suite is a great accounting package at an affordable price point. It is the most widely used accounting software worldwide and we’ve seen it work successfully for businesses of many sizes and in a variety of industries. However, it is designed to handle basic accounting functions, not complex business processes. If you find yourself needing to manage:
- Manufacturing
- Distribution
- Project Management
- Complex reporting and forecasting
- Customer relationship management (CRM)
If you are in need of additional application and are outgrowing QuickBooks functionality, it may be time to consider an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution. A full ERP system like Acumatica will fully integrate your accounting and financial systems with everything else that helps you run a healthy business.

QuickBooks Enterprise ERP
QuickBooks Mid Market Solutions
QuickBooks Enterprise is not full ERP system; it is designed to be the appropriate next step for a growing small business, providing features and functionality companies need without over-serving them. QuickBooks Enterprise is the most advanced version of Intuit’s popular and widely used accounting software.
QuickBooks Enterprise goes beyond standard accounting software to offer end-to-end solutions for companies entering the mid-sized market. Enterprise can help companies make more informed financial decisions by delivering tailored reports that present information in custom visual representations. Additionally, Enterprise offers options for cloud hosting, field service management and Electronic Data Exchange (EDI).
Why Fourlane Supports Acumatica
For the past few years we have been performing due diligence on a number of ERP solutions. We’ve been exclusively Intuit resellers since 2009, so Fourlane supporting another accounting software product is a big deal. We’ve chosen to support Acumatica ERP software for several reasons.
Foremost, with Acumatica you own your data. This means no lock-in, unlike products like NetSuite and SAP, which can be extremely difficult to convert from. We only recommend solutions where you retain full control of your data and customer base.
Acumatica also offers a flexible pricing model, which makes it an ideal next step for growing companies. They have consumption based pricing which means you pay for the amount of bandwidth you use, not by number of users. This means you aren’t looking at steep price increases every time a new team member needs to access the system. Compared to other ERP systems, Acumatica’s price point is much more affordable and the initial capital expense is much lower.
Lastly, Acumatica is a product that was built for the cloud. Most legacy ERPs (again, we’re talking mostly about NetSuite and SAP) were first built as on-premise solutions, much like QuickBooks Enterprise. Then as cloud-based software and SaaS subscriptions became the new normal, they made some tweaks to the software to work in-browser, and operate as a subscription.
With Acumatica, the software has been cloud-based since the beginning and its design and workflows reflect this. It feels seamless and natural and the native mobile apps (Apple and Android available) are extremely user-friendly.
As we have a number of long-term clients who are now outgrowing QuickBooks, and in need of another great solution, we’re excited to offer a great alternative!
